Cat#97-17

50 x 50cm Inkjet photographic print on cotton rag with pastel by Tallara Gray

This work is an outcome of Baluk Arts’ Gumbadik (Soft Tree Fern) project which connected local Aboriginal people of diverse heritage to one of the few original natural environments of the Mornington Peninsula. Endeavour Fern Gully in Red Hill which is managed by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), holds a rich history and cultural significance which captured the imagination of this important collective of Indigenous artists.

Tallara is a descendant of the Gudang people of Cape York.  Tallara grew up on Yugarapul country in South East Queensland, but moved to the Mornington Peninsula in 2016 and joined the Baluk Arts team as a member and arts worker.  She graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Fine Art) Honors in 2015.  Her work takes the form of sculpture and mixed media works, including photographic and text explorations.

I use these images, and therefore location, as a metaphor and representation of ideas, stories and situations in my life. These narratives are not black and white and there light and dark stories in my own family.
