Uncle Nick explains, “The Tamar is a place where palawa people camped and lived, as there was plentiful supply of fish, shellfish and game.  I have discovered periwinkle shells in caves a long time ago, so that signifies that they would’ve been a source of food”.

The landscape of the Tamar River has great cultural and spiritual significance to Nick and features across several of his artworks.  This piece is a combination of acrylic and oil painting on unstretched canvas.

Nick Kupetsky is a palawa man from central Tasmania and has been a creative practitioner for over twenty years. Nick’s multi-media practice explores the deep and dark ancestral histories of palawa country, as well as the artist’s own private moments of cultural discovery and revelation.
